Reading Course: American Novels of the 19th Century

Dozentin: Christina Caupert M.A.
Termin: Mi. 14.00-15.30 Uhr
Raum: 1011

In this reading-intensive course, which is open to students of all semesters, we will aim at a thorough analysis of three major American novels of the 19th century. Close readings of selected text passages will alternate with the discussion of secondary sources, some of which will have to be prepared at home. Background information on literary periods (like the “American Renaissance”), narrative techniques (e.g. “skaz”) and literary theories (like the model of “Cultural Ecology”) will round off our programme. Participants should enjoy reading and be willing to participate actively in class.
