Britta Waldschmidt-Nelson joined the faculty of the University of Augsburg in 2016 as Professor of Transatlantic History and Culture. Previously she served for five years as Deputy Director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C., she taught American history at the University of Munich from 1994 to 2011 and she has been a visiting scholar and guest lecturer at numerous European and American universities. Professor Waldschmidt-Nelson’s main research interests are Transatlantic Relations, African American Studies, Gender, and Religious History. Among her publication are Europe and America: Cultures in Translation (2006), Christian Science im Lande Luthers: Eine amerikanische Religionsgemeinschaft in Deutschland (2009),  Dreams and Nightmares: Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and the Struggle for Black Equality in America (2011), The Transatlantic Sixties: Europe and the United States in the Counterculture Decade (2013) and Malcolm X: Eine Biographie (2015).
