Ph.D. Program

The Chair of American Literature offers a Ph.D. program under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hubert Zapf. It leads up to the academic degree of Dr. phil.

The program is open to students who hold an academic degree with a very good or a good grade (1.0 to 2.5). For detailed information see the Ph.D. infosheet of the Faculty of Philology and History. If you are interested in applying, please contact Prof. Zapf directly.

The Ph.D. program consists of three parts:

  • a regular research seminar where instructors, Ph.D. candidates, and students present their projects and receive feedback;
  • the American literature graduate seminar, which meets once a week to discuss recent texts and theories;
  • personal advice and supervision by Prof. Zapf
