Fascination, Fun and Effective Learning: Bring the Spark into the English Lesson! - 2. Dezember 2014

In the last thirty years, Bernard has held hundreds of workshops for teachers in Germany, Austria and Northern Italy. He is the author or co-author of a number of books, which have become bestsellers: The Fun Factor; The Pleasure Principle; Begin with a smile; Pepper and Salt and Magic and More. The titles of these books show us what Bernard's central aim is: to help teachers reduce 'The Anxiety Factor' and increase 'The Fun Factor' in English lesson and so increase effective learning and help even the weakest and least motivated pupils to progress in their learning.

2. Abstract of the Lecture

Do you remember Mary Poppins, that wonderful expert on didactics? Her theory was 'Just a teaspoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down in the most delightful way'. Nobody is saying that learning English vocabulary and structures is an unpleasant medicine, of course. However, we can 'help them go down in the most delightful way', with the help of humour, fascination, games and personalization. In this workshop you'll see how we can revise vocabulary with magic tricks, use questionnaires, the 'Oracle' and 'Musical Chairs' (Reise nach Jerusalem) to personalize our 'Stoff'. With the help of funny pictures, droodles and jokes we can use the 'Fun Factor' to make structures easier to understand. A few coins, smarties, jelly babies (Gummibärchen), matchboxes and a straw can also help us bring fun and effective learning into the classroom - even for our least motivated pupils!
