 welcome to applied linguistics! 

research in applied linguistics at the university of augsburg is anchored firmly to functional and empirical approaches to language and language use. the focus of investigation lies on the following questions:

  • how do interlocutors do things with words?
  • how do interlocutors do things with words in a second language?
  • how do interlocutors do things with words in intercultural communication?
  • what is discourse, and how is discourse used in particular contexts?

we offer courses for the following degrees: lehramt, ba anglistik/ amerikanistik and ma english and american studies, ba and ma anwendungsorientierte interkulturelle sprachwissenschaft (anis), as well as ma ethik der textkulturen.
