The Applied English Linguistics group at the University of Augsburg pursues a theoretically-based interdisciplinary approach to English and Applied Linguistics. The term “Applied English Linguistics” refers to both the exchange of theories and data between linguistics and other disciplines such as psychology, education and computer science and to the application of the findings of linguistic science to the acquisition, use, and teaching of English.

The research interests of the staff members include

·            phonetics and phonology of English

·            the development and structure of the world-wide varieties of English

·            second language acquisition

·            third language acquisition

·            second language teaching, especially teaching with language corpora

·            corpus linguistics

·            psycholinguistics

·            lexicography

We have set up the linguistics laboratory] at the University of Augsburg. Current research projects include the compilation of the ICE West Africa, English collocations and lexicography. The International Summer Course of the University of Augsburg is organized by us.
