Inhalt der Lehrveranstaltung:

Jewish American Literature after World War II has been a tremendous success with many great writers emerging. In fact, two of the authors discussed in this seminar, Saul Bellow and Isaac Bashevis Singer, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. In this course we will read and discuss Philip Roth’s short stories and his novel Goodbye Columbus, Saul Bellow’s short novel Seize the Day, Bernard Malamud’s The Assistant as well as select short stories by Isaac Bashevis Singer.

This course will be taught in English; a reader with additional literature will be available at the Lehrstuhl Amerikanistik at the beginning of the semester

Teilnahmevoraussetzungen: Zwischenprüfung

Anforderungen für den Scheinerwerb: Regular attendance, active participation, a short presentation, reading reports and a midterm
paper, as well as a final paper.
